Learning uppercase and lowercase letters is more engaging when children can turn it into a game! This Spin, Find & Cover Alphabet Game gives preschoolers a playful, hands-on way to practice recognizing and distinguishing letters.
Children use a pencil and paperclip to spin, identify whether they landed on the uppercase or lowercase letter, and then search for matching letters on the page. They can cover the letters with small manipulatives or mark them with a dot marker.
With one printable page for every letter from A to Z, this activity is perfect for preschool classrooms, pre-K literacy centers, home daycare programs, homeschool lessons, or extra alphabet practice at home.

A Hands-On Uppercase and Lowercase Letter Game
Young children need plenty of opportunities to see, name, and compare letters. This printable concentrates on one letter at a time, helping children focus without being distracted by the entire alphabet.
Each page includes:
- An uppercase and lowercase letter spinner
- A mixed-letter search area
- Several uppercase and lowercase target letters
- Beginning-sound pictures
- A name line
- Large, uncluttered spaces for young learners
Children must look carefully at the letters in the search box and decide whether each one matches the form selected by the spinner.
Supplies
You will need:
- Spin, Find & Cover Alphabet printable (below)
- One paperclip
- One pencil
- Small counters, pom-poms, mini erasers, or other manipulatives
- Optional dot markers or crayons
If you would like to reuse the worksheets, laminate the pages or place them inside dry-erase pockets. Children can cover the letters with manipulatives and remove them when the game is finished.
How to Make the Paperclip Spinner
Place a paperclip in the center of the uppercase and lowercase letter circle, using the printed dot as a guide.
Put the tip of a pencil through one end of the paperclip and hold the pencil steady against the center dot. Have the child flick the paperclip with one finger to make it spin.
The paperclip will land on either the uppercase or lowercase form of the featured letter.
How to Play Spin, Find & Cover
Choose the letter page you want to practice and place it on a flat surface.
Have the child:
- Spin the paperclip.
- Identify whether it landed on the uppercase or lowercase letter.
- Search the box for matching letters.
- Cover, dot, or color each matching letter.
- Spin again and repeat with the other form of the letter.
Children can continue until they have found all the uppercase and lowercase target letters on the page.
There is no need to complete the entire page at once. Younger preschoolers may only want to take a few turns, while older children may enjoy searching until every matching letter has been found.

Skills Practiced With This Alphabet Game
This printable provides practice with several important early learning skills.
Uppercase and Lowercase Letter Recognition
Children see both forms of the featured letter and practice identifying each one independently.
Visual Discrimination
The mixed-letter search area encourages children to look carefully at letter shapes and notice their similarities and differences.
Fine Motor Development
Spinning the paperclip and placing small manipulatives over the letters helps strengthen hand and finger muscles.
If children use dot markers or crayons, they also practice controlling where they place each mark.
Hand-Eye Coordination
Children coordinate what they see with the movement needed to cover or mark the correct letter.
Beginning-Sound Awareness
The pictures on each page provide an additional opportunity to introduce the featured letter’s sound. Name the pictures together and emphasize their beginning sounds.

Tips for Younger Preschoolers
If a child is new to letter recognition, begin with meaningful letters, such as the first letter of their name.
You can also:
- Introduce only one worksheet at a time.
- Name the uppercase and lowercase letters before beginning.
- Point out the differences between the two letter forms.
- Help the child scan the search box one row at a time.
- Use larger counters that are easy for little hands to pick up.
- Take turns spinning and finding letters.
The goal is playful exposure and practice, not speed or perfect accuracy.
Ways to Use the Alphabet Printable
Preschool Literacy Centers
Place several pages in your literacy center with paperclips, pencils, and colorful counters. Offer only a few letters at a time so the activity remains manageable.
Small-Group Instruction
Use the worksheets with a small group and encourage children to name each letter before covering it.
Morning Work
Set out a familiar page as an independent arrival activity or simple morning table task.
Letters in a Child’s Name
Start with the letters found in the child’s name. Familiar letters often feel more meaningful and motivating.
Alphabet Review
Use the pages to review previously introduced letters instead of completing them in alphabetical order.
No-Prep Letter Practice
For a quick version, skip the manipulatives and let children circle or color the matching letters with crayons.
